Ilayangudi Muslim Educational Association

Evolution:
On 26.11.1945 the idea of starting Ilayangudi Muslim Educational Association was conceived at Oppadaiyar.K.M.S. Mohamed Ismail's House in a private meeting at Ilayangudi. The purpose of its establishment was to start a High School in Ilayangudi to educate the Muslim community in particular.

On 10.12.1945 the first formal meeting was held at Rahmaniya School presided by Janab. Moosa of Pudur, which elected the following 15 member body as Organising Committee.

Registration:
On 26.1.1946 it was decided to register the Association legally in the subsequent meeting at Pudur in Sandi A.N. Mohamed Rawoother's house. In the same meeting a Fund Raising Committee has been announced to raise the funds to found High School at Ilayangudi.

Sivaganga Dynasy Contribution:
On 10.5.1947 the Muslim Educational Association represented and received 14 Acre land from Sivaganga Jaminthar. Hon'ble Shanmuga Raja on sivagangai road to build permanent High School at Ilayangudi.

This land was acquired from the Sivaganga Dynasy as a expansion programme of RAHMANIYA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL to High School. The land was legally donated and registered to Kalifa. K.M.N. Abdul Kareem owner of Rahmaniya School by Sivagangai Jameen.

In the same year 6th, 7th and 8th standards were started on a temporary location at Salaiyur donated by T.M.K. Syed Mohamed of Salaiyur.

The required materials for the school such as Tables, Chairs, Boards were supplied by Kalifa. K.M.N. Abdul Kareem from Rahmaniya School. Also, Rahmaniya School provided the Teachers and new Students to the new High School.

On 4.6.1947 the first building consists of 12 class room building was built in the north side of Lake & Kilayur Road under the supervision of Kalifa. K.M.N. Abdul Kareem and K.K. Mohamed Sherif.

On 10.6.1947 the temporary school building at Salaiyur was expanded under the above persons supervision.

On 30.6.1947 High School came into existence under the name of ILAYANGUDI MUSLIM HIGH SCHOOL (later the school name was changed to ILAYANGUDI HIGH SCHOOL) by an inauguration function presided by V.K.P.M. Kader Mohideen and Mr. Chithalinga Gounder, B.A.L.T., Asst. Head Master, District Board School was invited as chief guest.

Mr. Hameed Sultan of Paramakkudi delivered the introduction speech. Mr. Sam. A Doorai B.A.L.T. was the first Head Master of Ilayangudi High School.

On 7.4.1948 the Muslim Educational Association was registered in Ramanad Sub Registrars Office by Registrar Mr. Ponnaiyakon, Regd No. 3/194849 G.O.M.S. 4709.

On 30.6.1948 the school was shifted to the new 12 class room building at sivagangai road from the Salaiyur.

On 1.4.1949 Oppadaiyar. K.M.S. Mohamed Arif taken charge of Secretary of Muslim Educational Association.

On 27.9.1950 a massive structure was built by Oppadaiyar. K.M.S. Mohamed Ismail & Bros. in the memory of their father Haji. K.M. Sultan Alaudeen at the cost of 1.5 lakhs approx.

The building was inaugurated by Madras Presidency Prime Minister Hon'ble Kumarasamy Raja. This building was the biggest and largest single building for an educational institution in the whole Ramnad District till date.

On 7.7.1952 Residential Houses for the Teachers were build and donated by Khan Sahib Sandi. S.A.N. Mohamed Rawoother - Pudur, K.K. Ibrahim Ali - Pudur and S.A. Abbas.

On the same year Electric connections were given to the school buildings contributed by Haji. Thenmalaikhan. T.K. Hameed Sultan.

On 20.7.1972 Silver Jubilee was celebrated for the Muslim Educational Association & Ilayangudi High School in a function with Justice. M.M. Ismail, Madras High Court Judge as Chief Guest.
On 29.9.1972 Chemistry Lab was build with the help of Government Aid and Haji. Oppadaiyar. K.M.S. Mohamed Ismail & Bros.

During 1993 Ayisha Computer Acadamy was started to teach Computer education to the students. Computers and Accessories were donated by Thenmalaikhan. T.S.T.Kaznavi

On 30.12.1993 the very first building of 12 class rooms was renovated with the help of Haji. Pudukulathan. P.M. Abdul Aziz of Singapore.

A.E.Al Ameen takes over the Joint Secretary Post from T.K. Kader Ibrahim.

On 13.6.1995 new Water Tank was donated by first Ilayangudi American Citizen Vavanan V.N.A. Sultan Ahamed M.D. F.R.C.S of USA in the memory of his father Vavanan. V.N. Abdul Lateef.

During 1995 Kadariya Masjid was donated by Haji. Thenmalaikhan. T.K.Hameed Sultan in the memory of his parents Thenmalaikhan. T.A. Kader Sahib & S. Fathimal Beevi @ Ponnammal in the School complex.

Golden Jubilee:
During 1997 Golden Jubilee was celebrated participating Hon'ble Justice. M. Fathima Beevi, Governor, Tamilnadu Government as Chief Guest.

A new mosaic stone edict was donated by Haji. Athikarai. Shaik Alaudeen of Malaysia detailing the history of Muslim Edcuational Association and Ilayangudi Higher Secondary School.

Politics in Muslim Edcuational Association!
The purpose of Ilayangudi Muslim Educational Association was defeated in recent years with the intrusion of political party members into the Association.

Since, mid & late 1990's onwards some of the Association Members do not realise the cause of its establishment and they are fighting between themselves as third rated politicians.

The Ilayangudi Muslim Educational Association was founded collectively by all the Jamath members of Ilayangudi to educate the Ilayangudi Muslim Community.

It is unfortunate that the Founding Jamath Members, Major Donors, Active Participants since its establishment were not recognized properly.

Those people who shed their blood and sweat to errect this Association and Institution with the noble cause had been conviently forgotton. This is due to the intrusion of shortsighted illiterates, selfish and politicians into the Association.

Now, the Muslim Educational Association is become an arena of politicians to show their muscle power. At one stage the Muslim Educational Association managed School was taken over by the Government and School was running with Government Special Officer.

Recently, the political changes in Tamilnadu also reflected in the Muslim Educational Association Committee.

The following new committee was announced in October 2001 representing one political party supporters, instead of selecting educated scholars and broad thinkers.

This selection is challenged in the court by the other political party supporters paving the way for malfunctioning of the institution.

We request the all of ILAYANGUDIANS to unite in the name of ISLAM and select a committee representing Educated Foresighted Scholars of Ilayangudi & its surrounding Jamaths.

Recommendations:
1. No political party members / Active Politicians should represent in any post of the Association.
2. Presently, all the powers were accumulated to the Secretary post of Association and President post is treated as dummy post, which stimulates the boss over attitude. Secretary post must be stripped its powers and power should be shared with President. So that it will pave the way for democratic functioning of the Institution.

3. President & Secretary posts must be given to all jamath members on rotation basis.

4. Each Jamath Members should be given equal participation in the committee.

5. Committee Members must be recommended by each Jamath Trust Board. No independent candidates should be given membership without the consent of the Jamath Trust Board.

6. There must be basic minimum educational qualification required to become a member of the Association. Its each Jamath Trust Boards duty to recommend their members (candidates) as educated and foresighted.
